Plate number three. This design was inspired by the beautiful almond blossom we get over here in the winter (usually in mid January). It really is something else: the hill sides covered with a carpet of white and pink blossom. Although I changed the colours for the plate, adding yellow and a dark purple/red colour for the background, the petal formation is the same as the real flowers. It is my most detailed design so far, as I have highlighted the leaves and spots on the inner petals with extra gold gutta.
It took me about two and a half hours to paint and had two separate drying stages, plus a baking session in the oven – which makes it microwave safe, however it’s not officially food safe but as it’s only going to be used as a decorative plate that does not matter.
The photos were taken quickly in my studio and so are not the highest quality, but give a good idea of what they look like.
That’s 3 down and 9 more plates to go!
Have a creative day!
