Remembrance Day

Silence lies over the fields. The guns fire no more. Grass grows over. Flowers bloom. The earth covers all. Events long ago are dim and cloudy. But the scars are deep. Too deep for time to erase. Then the wind stirs once more. Distant memories float about.  Others, unseen by all the living appear.  Faded uniforms and rusting helmets. They stand and wait. Then the people come. Red poppies in their hands. Deep red poppies, so frail and strong. November’s chill travels. Coats are buttoned up higher. Still they stand. They and the Others are silent. They’ve all come to remember

As today is Remembrance Day here and to honour the occasion I asked several of my friends to each draw a picture to mark the day. Every one of us has or had family and friends who fought in wars  so I always feel that the 11th of November is an important time.  Just to take a moment, to sit and think. Let’s all Remember.
